We are back with another Monthly Madefor Happenings email, your source for last month’s wrap-up and not-to-miss happenings coming up in December.
💭 A Thought From Our Co-Founder Pat…
You’re not enough might seem like a strange message, but it’s been a consistent theme in our live Basecamps Conversations over the past few months. Our last three esteemed guests addressed it in their own way:
Dr. Lisa Feldman Barrett (Neuroscientist, Psychologist, Expert on Human Emotion) shared that our nervous systems require the participation of others to be their best.
Blessing Offor (Acclaimed Songwriter/Singer and Blind Nigerian Immigrant) shared that we’re only disabled when we lose interest in exploring unique perspectives.
Dr. Vanessa Bohns (Social Psychologist, Expert on Influence) shared that we have far more power than we realize to shape and be shaped by the world that surrounds us.
As you work your way through the highs and lows this holiday season, don’t lose sight of the opportunity that comes from being surrounded by friends, family, and even strangers. With a little kindness, curiosity, and compassion, you have the power to bring out the best in yourself and others.
Together, we’re better.

🗣 How to Increase Your Influence
During our November Basecamp Conversation, our Co-Founder, Pat, spoke with renowned social psychologist and author, Dr. Vanessa Bohns, in November. Here are three tips on how to increase your influence based on the conversation:
Practice Getting Perspective. It's easy to assume we know what people are thinking; however, we are often wrong. The next time you are in a situation where you observe yourself falling into this trap, stop! Ask the person you're interacting with what they are feeling and experiencing instead of assuming you know. They'll appreciate you asking them, and you just upped your influence quotient!
Reframe. The next time you catch yourself having those “nobody likes me,” “I don’t really matter,” or “I’m not enough” thoughts, take to your journal and write down three reasons you feel that way. Now turn those negatives into positives by reframing them.
Pay it Forward. The next time you think a nice thought about someone, tell them. It can be in person, by phone, text, email, or in a note. Bonus: it'll give you both the warm fuzzies!
🗓 Out With the Old to Make Way For the New
